Urban League of Rochester names new President and CEO, Dr. Seanelle Hawkins

The board of directors proudly names Dr. Seanelle Hawkins its new President and CEO, effective June 3, 2019. Dr. Hawkins is the first woman to ever serve as President and CEO of Urban League of Rochester.

Hawkins succeeds the longtime leadership of William G. Clark, who became President and CEO of the Urban League in 1994 following dedicated involvement since 1981. Clark leaves behind a legacy of advocacy and development — paving the way for over 30 programs to support minority citizens as well as Rochester’s youth, economically disadvantaged, developmentally disabled, and families and small businesses.

“We are fully confident that Dr. Hawkins can pick up the baton where William G. Clark leaves off”, said the board.

Dr. Hawkins joins the Urban League from her position as Executive Director of Sojourner Home, a local nonprofit empowering women, children, and their families through transitional support services as they recover from traumas associated with homelessness, domestic violence, mental health, and substance use disorders. As leader of Urban League, she will continue to serve the mission of building self-sufficiency through education, skill development, employment, and homeownership in Rochester on a larger scale.

“I am thrilled to serve as the first female President and CEO. I look forward to exploring new economic development opportunities, increasing access to education and employment opportunities, and partnering with our stakeholders to advance the Urban League Movement. ” shared Dr. Hawkins.
