Vocational Specialist - Reentry (Per Diem)


Within the boundaries of federal, state, local, and agency regulations, the Vocational Specialist will work with individuals who are currently or have previously been involved in the justice system to improve their employment outcomes. The Vocational Specialist will help program participants enter their desired career pathway. The Vocational Specialist will collaborate with other program staff to ensure participants meet their workforce goals.




  1. Assist program participants with employment-related goals such as registering for a Registered Apprenticeship entrance exam, developing a resume, writing a cover letter, preparing for interviews, and writing thank you notes to employers after interviews.
  2. Provide individual instruction and counseling as needed.
  3. Prepare program records, reports, and other related paperwork.
  4. Coordinate outside agency workforce contacts as needed.
  5. Work with staff to monitor participant progress.
  6. Participate in required program and agency meetings.
  7. Collaborate effectively and communicate proactively with staff and clients.
  8. Attend Urban Leagues of Rochester events.
  9. Perform other relevant duties as assigned by supervisor.





  • Associate’s degree required; Bachelor’s degree is preferred.
  • Minimum 1 year of vocational counseling experience.
  • Knowledge of learning theory and teaching methodology. Familiarity with the Universal Design for Learning a plus.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends, when required.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to relate to, communicate with, and work with a diverse population and understand the issues relating to such population.
  • Competency with Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel and ability to produce monthly reports and other required documents.
  • Must be customer service oriented.
