Program Counselor - ESAP


DESCRIPTION:

Within the boundaries of federal, state, local, and agency regulations, the Empire State Afterschool Program Youth Counselor assist with the planning, development and implementation of the Empire State Afterschool Program. (ESA) The ESA Program supports the expansion of quality afterschool programs that provides opportunities for academic enrichment. An array of services includes academic support, service learning, financial literacy, drug and violence prevention.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Develop, build, and maintain strong community support and collaborative program partnerships with community and educational and training organizations; employers; and city, state, county and federal agencies.
  2. Administer program on a daily basis.
  3. Provides support services or special projects assigned to the program to ensure that program goals are met., including delivery of direct program services, including, academic support, health/wellness, work readiness, drug and violence prevention workshops.
  4. Maintain a caseload of 20 or more students and provide comprehensive support services to them
  5. Recruit students for program.
  6. Monitor the program’s progress towards goals and develop plans for corrective action as required.
  7. Preparation and regular submission of all reports necessary for management.
  8. Complete records and reports to track and assure successful program outcomes.
  9. Maintain and submit required documentation in a timely manner to ensure deadlines are met and ensure effective program operation.
  10. Participate in training and orientation as required and approved by the Program Director for effective program operation.
  11. Perform such duties as the supervisor may assign.
  12. Attend all Urban League of Rochester events and fund raising functions.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associates degree with at least two years of education and employment training experience is required.
  • Experience working with federal, state, or local grant-funded programs is a plus
  • Must have a minimum of two years recruiting experience.
  • At least one year of experience working with families and youth in an urban setting.
  • Ability to relate to and work with a diverse population and understand the issues relevant to such population.
  • Experience working with community and faith-based organizations.
  • Knowledge of available community resources.
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to function effectively as part of a team
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with demonstrated ability to juggle multiple, competing tasks and demands
  • Ability to provide own transportation.  Valid New York State Driver’s License with clean abstract.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends, when required.
  • Must be customer service oriented.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel.
