Face Forward Program Director



Within the boundaries of federal, state, local, and agency regulations, the Face Forward Program Director oversees the planning, development and implementation of the Face Forward Program. Face Forward serves individuals ages 14-24, both in-school and out-of school that have been or currently are involved in the juvenile justice system. The program provides comprehensive, integrated services that lead to participants’ entry into career pathways in the growing sectors of construction, health care, and food service.




Under the supervision of the VP Program Planning the Program Director will:

  1. Plan, develop and provide oversight of the Face Forward Program.
  2. Develop strong community support and collaborative partnerships.
  3. Build and maintain effective working relations and linkages with community and educational and training organizations; employers; and city, state, county and federal agencies.
  4. Maintain appropriate communication and interaction with other Face Forward partner organizations.
  5. Administer program on a daily basis.
  6. Supervise program staff and monitor and evaluate the job performance of each team member in the program
  7. Monitor the program budget
  8. Assist program employees with provision of direct services.
  9. Supervise all support services or special projects assigned to the program to ensure that program goals are met.
  10. Design program and organizational structure; plan and coordinate development of program components to ensure quality and integration.
  11. Oversee mentor recruitment and training
  12. Oversee the preparation and regular submission of all reports necessary for management and funding sources.
  13. Recruit and interview candidates for positions within the program and make recommendations on personnel decisions to the Director of Human Resources.
  14. Maintain and submit required documentation to the VP Program Planning in a timely manner to ensure deadlines are met and ensure effective program operation.
  15. Monitor the program’s progress towards goals and develop plans for corrective action as required.
  16. Complete records and reports to track and assure successful program outcomes.
  17. Participate in training and orientation as required and approved by the VP Program Planning for effective program operation.
  18. In collaboration with the Program Planning, Research and Evaluation Department, search for funding opportunities and raise program funds from public and private funding sources.
  19. Perform such duties as the supervisor may assign.
  20. Attend all Urban League of Rochester events and fund raising functions.





  • Master’s Degree in Social Work, Education, Business Administration, Public Administration or related field; Bachelor’s degree with additional skill and experience; minimum 2 years employment and training experience; minimum 3 years supervising a minimum of 3 or more employees preferred.
  • Strong leadership skills and at least 3 years successful management or program development experience in a community based setting.
  • At least 5 years’ experience of working with families and youth in an urban setting.
  • An equivalent combination of the above may be acceptable.
  • Experience with program and grant management
  • Strong background in teaching reading skills, particularly, reading and mathematics, as well as the ability to teach career related materials.
  • Strong background in workforce development
  • Excellent supervisory, written and oral communications skills.
  • Experience negotiating and working with community and faith-based organizations and public agencies.
  • Knowledge of available community resources a plus.
  • Ability to relate, communicate, and work with a diverse population and understand the issues relevant to such population.
  • Competency with Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel and ability to produce required quantitative and qualitative reports.
  • Able to provide own transportation.  Valid New York State Driver’s License with clean abstract.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends, when required.
  • Ability to relate well with others, a team player with a positive attitude.
  • Must be customer service oriented.
