RESPONSIBILITIES:
Manage and be responsible for a minimum caseload of fifteen (15) cases.
Provide counseling on an individual and/or group basis as necessary, to meet the needs of the program participants. Contacts will occur weekly to bi-weekly, and more often if the need arises. The Caseworker will meet with youth and families in their homes, at the program site offices, and/or at the recreational site.
The Caseworker must be on-call 24-hours per day to meet the needs of youth and their families after work hours. Some evening work hours may be required.
Provide crisis intervention to the parents and/or children.
Attend and prepare for all necessary court appearance
Refer special problems of participants to the appropriate program staff within the Urban League, refer parents to parenting class, and assist youth and families in accessing support services available in the community.
Maintain appropriate communications and interaction with other human service providers, such as Probation, Foster Care, Child Protective Service, schools and community agencies.
Maintain appropriate records in a timely fashion as required, to ensure effective program operation, i.e., case planning for the Youth and family, maintenance of all case records on program participants, attend all FASP’s conferences, attend all necessary court appearances, prepare necessary Court papers and summaries, etc.
Participate in training and orientation as required for effective program operation.
Perform other relevant duties as may be assigned by immediate supervisor.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree or Master's degree (preferred) in counseling, social work, or related social science.
At least two years’ experience in working with families and youth in an urban setting.
Must be able to tolerate and handle stressful situations in a calm and professional manner.
Valid NYS driver license, clean driver’s abstract.
Car necessary.
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be acceptable.
Knowledge of the issues concerning the minority community and families.
Ability to speak, read and write fluently in both Spanish and English a plus.
